With games being the most downloaded apps on all of the smart phone platform, it stands to reason that they’re taking over the world. More than 64% of mobile phone users download games, while just 56% download social networking apps like Facebook and Twitter. There are many games that have rocked the world of mobile gaming, but a few stand out above the rest:
Angry Birds — Angry Birds is the most downloaded game available on smart phones, and the $1 app has become one of the most popular mobile brands around. With Angry Birds party supplies, T-shirts, cell phone cases, stuffed animals, and car decals abounding, the franchise has become one of the most successful mobile games in a feverishly competitive industry. There are dozens of versions of the game released, but none of them has outsold the original version released in 2009. Still, games like Angry Birds Rio, Star Wars Angry Birds, and Angry Birds Space are racking up more money for Rovio, and there’s no end in sight for the projected profits of this highly addicting video game!
Fruit Ninja — It sounds silly that such a simple game as this one would become such a huge success, but the truth is that it is a game that you just can’t get enough of. The $1 game is simple, and it can be played as you watch TV, chat with friends, or just chill. There is a free version, but the many paid versions have netted Halfbrick Studios a small fortune. It has been downloaded more than 300 million times as of May 2012, which means that the company has been raking in the cash like crazy. It has been released for all of the mobile platforms, making it one of the widest-spread games of all.
Cut the Rope — Cut the Rope may not have had as much success in the offline world as Angry Birds, but it’s still one of the most downloaded games on mobile phones. This game also costs just $0.99, making it one of the most affordable games offered on smart phones. A 2011 report by IGN stated that the game had been downloaded 60 million times, a number that has probably doubled by now. It won a BAFTA Best Games Award in the year 2011, and the game is ridiculously addicting to those that get started playing it. With the many versions of the game available for downloads, their profits are only set to grow more!
Doodle Jump — There’s something appealing about simple games that you can play without really thinking about them, and Doodle Jump is the epitome of a mindless game that is totally addictive. The Lima Sky-developed game has been downloaded 5 million times, and it has gotten a very high rating on iTunes and Android’s App Store. The game is simple to play, a whole lot of fun, and challenging enough that it keeps your attention for hours on end!
